National Safer Internet Day

National Safer Internet Day

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

Dear Parents,

If you were not already aware, today is national Safer Internet Day. In the lead up to today, we have been showing a short film warning our students about the dangers and risks of on-line sexual coercion and exploitation. This film has been shown in assemblies over the course of the last two weeks and it has been viewed in a very mature and responsible way by students. A link to this film is provided here should you wish to watch this as parents or indeed, watch and discuss the contents of it with your child(ren). The messages in the film are hard-hitting but essential considering statistics which were announced last week in the news. It was announced that 50% of all 10 year olds in the UK now have their own smart phone whilst 25% of all 3-4 year olds in the country have their own tablet computer so in the light of this, on-line safety has never been more important. Please take the time to view this film – it is approximately 11 minutes long.

Here are also some parent guides to several different on-line apps and further information on how to keep children safe on-line can be found on our website under the ‘Well-being’ tab. The Internet is a wonderful resource but as we know, if it used without a degree of caution, it can be a dangerous place for our young people.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email.

Best wishes,

Mrs Chappell
