NCS this summer??
Dear Parent/Guardian,
On 13 January 2020 year 11 will have an assembly about National Citizen Service. We believe this is an amazing opportunity and we will encourage students to take part. NCS is a great way for students to develop their life skills and will help them stand out when applying for university or a job.
What is NCS?
More than half a million young people have completed NCS and 100,000 more will take part this summer. NCS takes place in the summer holidays, it lasts for 3 or 4 weeks, and is split into three parts:
Part 1 - Young people stay away from home at an outdoor activity centre (Monday to Friday.) It's a chance to meet new people and do amazing activities like rock climbing, canoeing, and abseiling.
Part 2 - A more local residential (Monday to Friday) packed with workshops to help young people develop important life skills. There will also be plenty of time for having fun with new friends.
Part 3 - Teams take one or two weeks (non-residential, Monday to Thursday) to design and deliver a social action project in their local community about something which they are passionate.
When is NCS?
NCS takes place in the summer holidays. There are several start dates this summer and when you complete your application, we will talk you through the options to help you choose.
Why do NCS?
● NCS looks good on UCAS statements and develops skills employers want
● NCS gives young people a chance to meet lots of new people
● NCS helps young people be heard in their local community
● NCS is great fun
How much will it cost?
NCS costs £1,500 a place, most of which is covered by the government. As such, NCS will only cost you £50. That covers food, activities, and accommodation while young people are away.
How to sign up for NCS
At the assembly, students will be given a sign-up pack with a short form to complete. Completed forms need to be returned to the school before 20th January 2020. NCS places are allocated on a first come first served basis so please ensure you return the form by the deadline date.
If you would like any other information about the NCS programme, please call NCS on 0800 197 8010 or visit www.wearencs.com. We truly value NCS as a transformative programme and hope you'll encourage your young person to take part.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Purton
