A brief pen portrait, which gives you a little more information on the new staff that are starting in September.
Jill Mitchell - Teacher of Maths
Qualifications:
BSc(Hons) Chemical Engineering; MBA; QTS; PGCE
Interests:
I really enjoy refurbishing old furniture - creating something beautiful from discarded rubbish! I also enjoy computerised embroidery and growing unusual plants from cuttings - with very limited success!
I consider being able to teach maths at secondary level in the UK to be a real privilege and (usually) love every minute of my teaching day.
Hannah Withers - Teacher of Design & Technology
Qualifications:
BSc (Hons) Geography and Education from Bath Spa University.
Secondary PGCE from Bristol University.
Interests:
I am a big musical theatre fan and love having the opportunity to attend live theatre.
I enjoy Pilates and am a member of a quiz team who meet regularly. I enjoy crafting having learnt skills in sewing, calligraphy, card making as well as trying my hand at other creative tasks which I look forward to applying in my new role.
Having previously taught Geography at Preston School, I am looking forward to returning and being part of the school community once again.
Megan felton - Teacher of PE

BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science from Cardiff Metropolitan University
PGCE (QTS)
Interests:
In my free time I enjoy watching and participating in sports, particularly netball, rugby, badminton and surfing. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, being anywhere by the sea and exploring different parts of the world.
I love sharing my passion for sport and exercise with students and I am excited to start my teaching career here at Preston School!
Julia Beer - Teacher of Maths
Qualifications:
Bed (Hons) Mathematics from University of the West of England, Bristol
Interests:
I love walking my 2 dogs in the countryside near my home. I enjoy making my own bath bombs, moisturisers, candles and soaps which are kind to the environment. I am also a keen gardener and grow various delicious fruits and vegetables.
I am enthusiastic about maths and my engineering background allows me to share examples of where maths can be used in real life situations.
Sarah Rice - Teacher of Maths
Qualifications:
B.Ed (Hons) English with Science Cardiff Metropolitan University
M.A. in Education ( Psychology and Special Educational Needs) Oxford Brookes University
Interests:
I LOVE reading and always have my head in a book, especially when I am supposed to be doing housework. I like to draw and paint using mixed media, but I am currently experimenting with digital artwork. I go to a weekly yoga class and I also love the discipline and physical strength I gain from practising martial arts.
I am very much looking forward to meeting my new students and their families.
Satnam Singh - Teacher of Maths

PGCE College of St Mark & St John, Plymouth
Interests:
I enjoy watching sport, particularly rugby, cricket and hockey.
I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy books.
I love DIY although my wife isn’t always as enthusiastic about my skills and efforts. Our house is still standing!
I love teaching Maths and problem solving, and take great satisfaction in seeing students improve not only their Maths skills but also their life skills and grow into GREAT individuals.
Francesca Maidment - Teacher of Maths
Qualifications:
BSc(Hons) Mathematics and Sport Science from Swansea University
Interests:
I have one-year twin boys and enjoy spending all my time with them when I am not teaching maths. I have always been involved in local stock car racing but we are having a bit of a break from this whilst my boys are still young. I have always enjoyed watching sports and I would really like to find time to start playing netball again.
I love teaching maths! It is such an important skill that every student needs to have had the opportunity to learn whilst at school.
Dave Macdonald - Subject Leader for Maths
Qualifications
BSc Mathematics, Operational Research and Statistics from The University of Wales, Cardiff.
Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (T.E.S.O.L.) Oxford House College, Barcelona.
Interests
Spending time with my 3-year-old son. I enjoy all sports and try and jog as often as possible. I have completed 2 London marathons and over 50 park runs. I really enjoy watching and playing darts and am a huge fan of the world’s greatest football team, Cardiff City F.C.
I love Maths and want every student to achieve as highly as possible in their time studying Mathematics at Preston.
Holly Watts - Teacher of Science
Qualifications:
BSc archaeology with forensic science, MSc bioarchaeology, PhD nutritional epidemiology, PGCE secondary science
Interests:
I enjoy any activity which involves building or crafting, including sewing, knitting, crochet, and DIY at home. I’m a keen gardener and am particularly interested in creating urban wildlife spaces.
I am very excited to join Preston School, having heard excellent things about the school and its students, and I am looking forward to becoming an active member of the Yeovil community.
