Message to Year 11 families

Message to Year 11 families

Tuesday, June 28, 2022

Dear Year 11 students & families,

As we come to the end of the GCSE exam season, and your young adult’s time at Preston, I wanted to write to you.

The end of secondary education is a momentous time in a young person’s life, as well as that of their family. I am sure that there is a mix of pleasure, having finished school, and excitement and trepidation about what the future holds. For many, many students school brings them security and a familiar and happy setting in which they can thrive. Changing that setting can upset that balance and I am sure that mix of emotions will continue into their new academic year. If we can do anything else to support them at all between now and September, and beyond, please do get in touch – we are here to help.

I would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the students who make up the Class of 2022. They are a brilliant group of young people. All the way through the school they have demonstrated the highest standards of behaviour and attitudes to learning. As you know, we have unashamedly high expectations and it is normal for year groups at this time of year to have had students who have failed to reach these standards, resulting in students finishing school early or not being allowed to go to the Prom and/or Leavers’ Assembly. I am delighted to say that this is not the case for any student this year, which is a great reflection of their attitude to their studies. The resilience and determination needed to overcome the challenges that the pandemic presented us are great skills to have developed and this year group have shown these in bucketloads. Whilst there have been several hurdles to get over, I am sure that the resilience that has grown will stand them in good stead for the future, whatever it holds. They are a great group of young people to have spent 5 years with and I speak on behalf of all of the staff and governors when I wish every single one of them all the very best for the future.

I would also like to thank you as families. Your enduring and proactive support of both your child(ren) and the school has been immense and has undoubtedly contributed hugely to the success that I have just described. This was particularly apparent throughout the pandemic, when your children needed you the most. Thank you for everything you have done for your child – as a parent of a Year 11 student I am aware that you may not always hear this so I wanted to say it! Many of you are about to end your association with the school and for those of you that we will not get to work with in the future, a huge ‘thank you and good luck’.

One final plea. If you have anything school-related that your family do not need anymore, we would be very grateful if you were able to donate it to us. Examples of items we would find useful:

Uniform (ties, blazers, trousers and shoes in particular)
PE kit
School bags

Any equipment not needed next year (e.g. Art/Technology equipment)
Any revision resources that could be used by other students (revision guides, notes, cards etc)
If you do have anything I would be grateful if you could bring them in to reception.

Finally, three dates for your diaries:

Tuesday 5th July                     Leavers’ Assembly – Main Hall

Thursday 7th July                    Prom – Haselbury Mill

Thursday 25th August            GCSE Results Day – The Hub

We look forward to seeing the students at these events and I hope to see you at both the Prom and Results Day.

Yours sincerely

Gregg Morrison

Principal
