Message from Mr Morrison

Thursday, December 2, 2021

Dear families,

I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and well and that you are looking forward to Christmas, which I am happy to say that I can mention now that we are in December!

I wanted to write this week, following the government’s announcement at the weekend about changes to COVID rules and guidance. As all secondary schools in Somerset were guided by Public Health Somerset to bring in the adaptations that we did after October half-term break, we have been working in a way that satisfies the current guidance. Therefore we do not need to change anything and we are operating in the same way that we have been since the first week in November. We currently have a relatively low number of COVID cases but many more students and staff absent with cold/flu bug. One plea on this is for you to please support us in ensuring that your child has a face covering with them each day they come to school, unless they are exempt. Increasingly we are seeing more students not having them and whilst we are currently providing these, our stock levels are running low and we should not have to provide the amount that we are doing each day. Thank you for your support with this.

Whilst I am writing, I just wanted to confirm once again the relevant term dates for the Christmas period:

·         Friday 17th December 2021 is the last day of the term. School finishes at 12.15pm on this day

·         Tuesday 4th January 2022 is now our Queen’s Jubilee INSET day – no school for students

·         Wednesday 5th January 2022 is a regular INSET day – no school for students

·         Thursday 6th January 2022 is the first day that students return

With regards to our joining the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership (MNSP), this is now likely to be on 1st February 2022. There has been a very minor hold up with some legal paper work so rather than rush for January we are going to work towards a joining date of 1st February instead. I will write to you on this to confirm nearer the time but we are looking forward to joining the trust and further developing the school with their support. I also look forward to writing to you when I am able to share with you our popularity with regards to Year 7 applications.

Thanks for your ongoing support of the school and, as always, if there is anything that we can help or support with then please do just let us know.

Best wishes

Gregg Morrison
