A Message To All Year 11 Families
Monday, April 19, 2021
Dear families of Year 11 students,
I hope that you enjoyed a good Easter break and that your children are well and good.
As a group of Somerset secondary schools we have been working together on what the remainder of this year looks like for Year 11 students, under these very different circumstances. As well as working together to get a united ‘leaving date’ we have also wanted to put on a series of optional events for the students, to help give them opportunities to further develop themselves in the time after they have left school. With this in mind I can confirm that the Year 11 students’ last day in lessons will be Thursday 27th May 2021. Schools have until 18th June to submit all grades and we would ask that the Year 11 students are available to come in to school to complete any necessary work, on an invite basis, between 7th-18th June 2021 if needed. This is the same for most secondary schools in Somerset.
We will be in touch with you on the exact details, but the following gives you some ideas on the sorts of activities that may be available to the students from June onwards:
Get A Head Start Curriculum – will include introductions to Year 12 programmes from Colleges and Sixth Forms, Year 12 options, Higher Education information and careers fair type interactions.
Get Ahead Support, Resilience and Aspiration – a variety of mental health and wellbeing virtual and actual support to help students prepare for the next steps in their Post 16 journey, including support from SomersetWorks.
Get Out There – a wide range of REAL-LIFE activities of a length, time and place to suit as many young people as possible - including National Citizenship Service, Duke of Edinburgh tasters, SSE Outdoor events, Activate, Army, Princes Trust opportunities, etc.
Get an Experience of Work – access to a wide range of virtual Work Experience insights - to find about the many different and varied employment sectors, jobs and careers in Somerset and beyond.
There are lots of great opportunities here and I know that many of these will be very popular. We will send the details on to you and the students as soon as we have them. You will also have received an email from Mrs White about the Leavers’ Ball, where we look forward to celebrating the end of your child’s secondary school education with them. We hope that lots of them are able to attend.
I hope that this helps you plan out the next few months, alongside the details that we have already shared about how the students will be assessed in each of their subjects. As always, if you have any questions or queries at all then please do just ask. We are here to help.
Best wishes
Mr Morrison
