GCSE Results Day Information

Published 18th August - Year 11 students, please read.

Dear Year 11 students,

I hope that you are well and have enjoyed a good summer? Like me, you have probably seen the media coverage of exams results day in Scotland and for A-levels and wondered what impact this would have on you and your results. I am pleased that yesterday the government announced that all Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) would be the grades awarded for students – this is the fairest way of doing this in my opinion.

As I am writing this before we have received the results, I wanted to convey how proud of you that I am regardless of the ‘results’ that you get. You have faced such a challenging time over the last 6 months and have dealt so well with everything that has been put in front of you. Whilst difficult, these challenges will have helped build you resilience and character. You are the first cohort of students that I have taken through from Year 7 to Year 11 and I am desperately sorry that you didn’t get to finish the year in the way that you should have been able to. Once we are allowed to, we will arrange the Leavers Assembly and Prom for you – and I hope that this is sooner rather than later!

One of the things that I would have said at your Leavers Assembly is that I believe that you go to school for two reasons, firstly to grow up and mature into fantastic young people who have the personal and social skills to go on an do anything that they want to in the world. Secondly, to gain the knowledge to perform well academically – including in exams. Your GCSE results on Thursday do not define you as a person. Whatever you get and whatever you go on to do, you still need to ‘work hard and be nice to people’ in everything that you do. GCSEs are a stepping-stone on to the next phase of your life and I hope that your results allow you to make the next step in the direction of your choice.

The information below from myself and our colleagues at Inspired to Achieve, who provide our independent careers, advice and guidance, is designed to help you understand what to do if you have any queries, questions or need any support with any aspect of your future.

As you know, the vast majority, if not all, of our local sixth-form providers have honoured their guaranteed and conditional offer of places to Year 11 students. This means that if they accepted you on to a course then they will honour this and you should have a place. We are very grateful for this as it has helped Year 11 students have one less thing to worry about.

Your results will be emailed to you on Thursday morning, hopefully between 8-8.30am. Sorry that we cannot have you on site but we have an important role to play in minimising gatherings of people, particularly when social distancing will be difficult. We can only email them to you (not your family, unless you have given us permission for this) so please email Jaclyn Surrey on jaclyn.surrey@prestonschool.co.uk with the email address to use for you. Many of you have done this already so thank you for this. If we do not receive your email address we will put your results in the post on Wednesday afternoon so hopefully they will be delivered on Thursday.

If you have any questions about your results and their impact on next year then please:

  • Contact your first choice provider for next year and check that you have your place
  • If you are unsure on what you want to do then you can contact Nina Allen (contact details on the next page)
  • If you still have a query about a grade please then email Miss Marsh on clare.marsh@prestonschool.co.uk , who will then liaise with the relevant Subject Leader for you
  • If you have an URGENT query then please call the school and there will be a team of staff to deal with your enquiry.

Good luck and we look forward to seeing you soon. I hope that your new courses start well next month and that you go on to achieve great success. With hard work you will.

Take care

Mr Morrison
