Be Safe

Dear families,

I hope that you were able to make the most of the ‘Easter Holiday’ and that this email finds you and your families healthy and well.

As we begin the summer term today I wanted to write to you with some reflections on home learning from the two weeks before Easter:

At the current time our students’ well-being and health is the most important thing and we will do whatever we can to support them and yourselves. The safeguarding page on our website has a lot of resources to help and if you need anything else please just contact a member of staff.

This period of absence from school has the potential to seriously disrupt students’ long-term learning and future success. We need to negate this by ensuring that students are completing the work set by staff, which will also help them ‘pass the time’ and remain purposeful and engaged in learning. As previously, all work is recorded on Google Classroom which your child and you have full access to.

Where home learning is working most successfully for families, it is doing so by the young people following a well-structured routine each school day. This routine is key to students’ learning and we would ask you to be proactive in ensuring that your child is engaging with their school work each day. The older your child the more important this is and our current Year 10 students will have less than a year before their GCSE exams by the time they return to school, so this is very important for them in particular.

We would like to make it clear that whilst staff are setting work for each lesson, we do not want any student to spend more than 1 hour on that lesson. Students do not need to finish each piece of work set and staff do not expect them to, so please do not let them do too much.

We know that for some families, access to laptops and IT facilities can be a challenge. This can be the case especially where there is more than one child in the house. Again, we are understanding of this and understand that it may be an issue for some. If you are having a particular problem with this then please do contact us on intranet@prestonschool.co.uk and we will do what we can to help.

We wish you luck for the new term and as always, if we can help with anything then please just let a member of staff know.

Yours sincerely
